Tee Ball (ages 4-6)

Player age determined using age on 8/31/25

This introductory, non-competitive level of baseball is for all players ages 4 through 6 with little or no baseball or softball experience. Players will hit a soft baseball from a stationary batting tee; no outs are tracked, and every player bats twice each inning.

• Uniform: South Salem Little League Dri-Fit jersey and baseball hat included with the registration fee.
• Practice: 1 day per week. Day, time, and location determined by the head coach.
• Games: Saturdays.
• Cost: $85
• Max Time Commitment: 2x per week (practices/games). Games consist of 2 innings or 1 hour. No games the weekend of Awesome 3000 and Memorial Day Weekend; those games will be played during the week if necessary.

A - Coach Pitch (ages 7-8)

6-year-olds can play if they have had 1 year of Tee Ball (please email to request: [email protected]). 5-year-olds with 1 year of Tee Ball or equivalent skill can request an assessment for this division.

AA - Machine Pitch (ages 7-9)

Designed for boys and girls wanting to expand fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Players hit from a pitching machine, focusing on instruction and teamwork.

• Uniform: South Salem Little League Dri-Fit jersey and baseball hat included with the registration fee.
• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week (max 3-day commitment total). Games are 2 hours or 6 innings.

• Max Time Commitment: A max commitment of 3 days per week  (practices/games). No games the weekend of Awesome 3000 and Memorial Day Weekend; those games will be played during the week if necessary.

Minor - Player Pitch (ages 8-11)

For players ready for fully competitive baseball with kid pitching. Players (ages 8-11) try out and are drafted based on ability.

• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week at various fields. Games are 6 innings or 2 hours.

Major (ages 9-12)

Player age determined using age on 8/31/25

More competitive than other divisions. Players (ages 9-12) try out and are drafted based on ability. All 12-year-olds automatically placed on a Majors team.

• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week at various fields. Games are 6 innings or 2 hours.
• Cost: $155

Intermediate (50/70) (ages 11-13)

This division uses a modified field with a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths.

• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week at various fields.

Junior (ages 12-14)

Players pitch from 60 feet 6 inches, with base paths set at 90 feet.

• Games: 1-2 games per week at various fields.

Senior (ages 13-16)

Players pitch from 60 feet 6 inches, with base paths set at 90 feet.

Minor AA - Coach/Machine Pitch (ages 6-8)

League age 6 players with one year of Tee Ball experience are eligible for the coach pitch or machine pitch divisions. The primary goals are to teach the fundamentals of softball and teamwork.

• Field: 60-foot diamond
• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week
• Parent Involvement: Parents are encouraged to volunteer as head coaches, assistant coaches, or in other capacities.

Minor AAA - Player Pitch (ages 8-11)

Minor League AAA Softball is for participants 8-11 years old. Competitive divisions of Minor League Softball may only use nine players on defense. League age 12 players may participate under specific circumstances.

• Field: 60-foot base paths, 35-foot pitching distance
• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week
• All Stars: Participation is based on eligibility and ability.
• Parent Involvement: Parents are encouraged to volunteer as head coaches, assistant coaches, or in other capacities.

Little League (Major) (ages 9-12)

The Little League Softball® division (sometimes known as the Major Division) is for players 9-12 years old. This division uses a fast-paced, player-pitch format. It is the first level eligible for All Stars and includes opportunities to compete in the International Tournament, culminating in the Girls Little League Softball World Series.

• Field: 60-foot diamond, 40-foot pitching distance
• Practice: 1-2 days per week.
• Games: 1-2 games per week
• All Stars: Participation is based on eligibility and ability.
• Parent Involvement: Parents are encouraged to volunteer as head coaches, assistant coaches, or in other capacities.

Junior (ages 12-14)

This division uses a conventional 60-foot diamond with a 43-foot pitching distance. Players may participate in All Stars tournaments, culminating in the Junior League Softball World Series.

• All Stars: Participation is based on eligibility and ability.

This division uses a 60-foot diamond with a 43-foot pitching distance. Players may participate in All Stars tournaments, culminating in the Senior League Softball World Series.
