Volunteers
We can't do this without YOU
Anyone can volunteer! Whatever your skills, we can use them. Volunteers include grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbors, and more. All parents are encouraged to help, creating a chance to share quality time with their child in a fun, safe environment.
No experience is needed to volunteer. Most roles require little or no training, and the league provides guidance and support. Volunteers make a difference, whether on the field or behind the scenes. Join us and find a role that fits your talents.

Volunteer Opportunities
Here are some common volunteer roles. Don’t see one that fits? Let us know!
Head Coach or Assistant Coach
Head coaches and assistant coaches guide teams, teach basics skills, and communicate with families about schedules and events. This rewarding role needs time, patience, and some knowledge of the game.
Umpire
Umpires enforce rules, call plays, and help players learn good sportsmanship. Each game has one home plate umpire and ideally at least one field umpire. Home plate umpires get scheduled in advance and may need training, while field umpires are often chosen at the game. Field umpires call plays on the bases and assist the home plate umpire.
Field Maintenance
We maintain our own fields and need help. As part of the field crew, you may help mow grass, line fields, rake dirt, and make minor repairs to fences and bleachers.
Team Parent
A Team Parent helps manage tasks like snack schedules, team parties, paperwork, and parent communication. Team Parents keep everyone informed so the season runs smoothly and is enjoyable for all.

Background Checks
Volunteers who have direct contact with children participants will be required to complete volunteer application paperwork. This includes a background check for criminal activity. South Salem Little League uses a variety of search vendors including Lexis-Nexis, Sexual Offender Registry and Oregon Judicial Department.
On rare occasions, Little League, through District Administrators and your local Board of Directors, may deny individuals the privilege of volunteering for reasons, past or present, that may be detrimental to the positive development of young people, other volunteers, and/or Little League International. When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the local Little League organization the right to conduct necessary background checks.
